Lego Pet Style

Cat and dog grooming

About us

We know every dog is different from another. Also, every owner is different from another. As people, each dog has its own issues, fears, behavior, and background. For this reason, we want to KNOW you and your pet! We want to hear about your pooch and do our best to get his/her trust.

Since grooming is a matter of personal taste, we ask that you spend a few minutes discussing your dog's history and preferences you may have -it is a great idea to bring notes and especially pictures of what you have in mind. This way, we can make sure that we capture what kind of haircut you have in mind. We want to make the grooming experience very pleasurable for your pup - and peace of mind for you. After all, she will have to come to us - or any other groomer, for her whole life. For this reason, we are a pro-cage-free environment.

All pets are kept in an open environment with fresh water. Grooming is an important part of your dog's health life. Bathing and brushing remove hair, dander, organisms (bacteria, yeast, parasites, etc.), environmental allergens, and oil from the skin's surface. These procedures are key components of healthy skin and coat management. It is a vital element to their overall health and well-being.

Nails are an important part of grooming. If you make a habit of trimming your pet's nails every 6 weeks before they get too long, the quick, which is the part of the nail with the blood and nerve supplies, will stay shorter as well. If your pet gets very long nails, we may be unable to trim them as short as you would like because they quickly grow out with the nail. If we cut into it, your pet may experience pain and bleeding, which may be traumatizing.

The idea is to begin training your dog to endure grooming while she is still a puppy. If you wait too long to begin the grooming sessions, your puppy may not be agreeable to them later on, especially when it comes to ear cleaning and nail clipping. We have a special service for puppies getting groomed for the first time. Day training service option for new puppies, first-time dogs, or nervous dogs that cannot be groomed to benefit from a low-stress first experience with us. Check our Prices & Packages page for more information.

We have certified dog groomers who love animals above all. Our job is done when our furry friends leave our spa happy, clean, and smelling beautiful.

The Emporium Full Groom

Consultation, Warm Bath, Rub Down Dry, Coat Cut, Ears and Eyes check, Nail Clip, Padicure.

Bath Only

For most dogs we recommend getting groomed every 6-8 weeks. In hot weather and winter dogs can get dirty and smelly in less than two weeks. Bring your pooch in for a bath whenever he or she loses that fresh scent. We will give them a good bath and fluff them out so they are happy and you are happier.

Shed out

We can eliminate most shedding on some breeds without needing to shave down your dog. Preserve your dog's image and ask to get a shed out.

Puppy Groom

It is important for your Puppy to experience grooming from a young age whether they have a quick brush & wash, or a full groom. The process of your puppy meeting their groomer and having a friendly and trusting experience makes any future trips to the groomer a pleasant and relaxed one. We take special care with our new puppy clients and make sure to give them a pleasurable first experience. We use tear less shampoo, get them acquainted with the tools, and spend lots of loving playtime with them. This is very important for your puppy's future habits at a grooming salon.

Flea Treatment

If your dog comes to the Spa with fleas we will automatically give them a flea treatment. Fleas are very harmful and annoying for your dog and our all natural flea treatment will kill all the fleas currently on your dog. You will need to seek methods to treat your home to prevent re infestation. If your dog has fleas your home has fleas.

Padicure

If you have a dog that generally does not get groomed or they are just not yet ready for their next groom, bring them in to get their nails trimmed.

Train your dog

Training Your Dog to Enjoy Grooming

Dog Grooming Dog Bathing Dog Bathing

If you learn how to train a dog to enjoy grooming, it will benefit both of you. calmer your dog, the easier the process. Your dog won't have to deal with the anxiety brought on by grooming, and you won't have to deal with a stressed-out pet that won't sit still.

While my tips will work for some pet owners, in certain cases and for dogs with severe anxiety, you'll need to contact a professional trainer or groomer. If the dog tries to bite you or becomes aggressive during grooming, you don't want to take any chances. Dog anxiety is common and must be addressed and dealt with seriously.

Grooming an Anxious Dog

For home groomers who are prepared to take matters into their own hands, there's a way to deal with a scared dog safely. If your canine is fidgety, pants excessively, or is generally uneasy when you groom them, learning how to train a dog to enjoy grooming won't be too difficult. With some praise and treats, your pet will soon learn that he has nothing to fear.

One quick tip: always keep a positive attitude when working with your dog(s). Studies have shown that dogs pick up on our emotions and attitude. Not only that, but dogs also prefer praise over dog treats, meaning your pet would rather your pet and praise them for good behavior than receive something tasty. AD It's important to remember this and stay patient, no matter what your pooch does during grooming.

How to Train a Dog to Enjoy Grooming

  1. Start Them Young: It is best to start grooming your dog when he's a young puppy, like all dog training. When dogs get older, they develop bad habits without the proper training.
  2. Allow Them to Get Used to the Area: Let your dog explore the grooming area (e.g., bathroom or salon) before starting the grooming process.
  3. Groom When They're Tired: A tired dog is easier to handle. Play fetch, tug-of-war, or go for a long walk before grooming.
  4. Prepare and Know What You're Doing: Take it slow and ensure you're ready for each task. Tasks include:
  5. Introduce Tools Gradually: Let your dog sniff and observe grooming tools like clippers. Reward calm behavior with treats. For tools that make noise, start with the tool off and gradually introduce it while running.

Conclusion

In my video on calming a dog before grooming, when they get used to the environment and grooming tools, you need to let him experience what will happen when used.

Other than the hair clipper example, another one would be using nail clippers.

So when you're getting him used to a pair of such nail clippers, you'll want to show him not only the tool but also handle his paws, toes, and nails - get him used to the sensation.

The goal is to avoid surprising your pet. Give the dog time to get used to every aspect of the grooming process so there will be a few new variables as possible.

If you're using pet towels, then you must continue doing this regularly so that your pooch gets used to this. That way, he won't get overstimulated, and he will stay calm.

Begin with one task at a time and work your way up gradually as your dog begins to enjoy or at least tolerate the previous grooming experience.

Once he's comfortable being washed and dried, you can move on to brushing.

Continue until your dog is comfortable with all the grooming procedures that he will need regularly.

The more fearful your pet is, the longer it will take to learn how to train a dog to enjoy grooming.

If he's an older dog and has been afraid of grooming for years, it's going to be a more difficult process.

You may not be able to help your pet be 100% comfortable with grooming, but you can certainly teach him that there is nothing to fear.

Napping

Dog trimming. What is it?

It doesn't matter what breed of dog, its size, or how long the dog's hair is—taking care of your pet's fur is important for every owner. It is necessary to do this for your faithful friend's well-being and neat, beautiful appearance. If you don't know how to properly care for your pet's fur, there are a few important things to consider.

First, find out all the features of the breed standard. By knowing what is characteristic of your pet's breed and its coat type, you will find the right solution faster on how to properly take care of the animal's well-being and neater appearance. If you are still in doubt, contact us, and we will help you decide.

When caring for especially rough-haired dogs, dog trimming (fur plucking) is performed. Dog trimming is a special fur management technique during which rough, old, and unhealthy hair is removed with special knives or manually, leaving the fur soft, smooth, shiny, and healthy. For pet owners who do not know this technique, it is better not to attempt it, as there is a risk of injuring and traumatizing your pet, instilling fear, and damaging the fur.

Dog trimming is a daily routine for me. We will do it right, using our experience and the correct tools. Proper trimming will not cause any painful sensations for your pet. In reliable and confident hands, they will quickly get used to it, relax, and soon feel much better.

Before starting the trimming procedure, the animal should not be bathed for 2 weeks. After trimming, it is best to bathe only with water or medical products that do not contain chemical elements. After removing all the unhealthy hair and unnecessary fur accumulations, the dog feels much healthier, and the changes in its appearance are also obvious.

Shave your cat

Should You Shave Your Cat?

Cat Shaving

Your cat's coat is her crowning glory, and you love nothing more than sinking your fingers into all that floof. But you might occasionally wonder, Won't all that fur make her hot this summer? Or, what if she gets herself into a “sticky” situation? Should I shave my cat's fur?

In a word: no. Shaving a cat is rarely necessary, and it should be handled only by a professional. Shaved cats may feel vulnerable, and the experience of being shaved can be traumatizing. Plus, their fur plays an important role in regulating body temperature, so shaved cats are susceptible to either being too hot or too cold.

However, there are a few circumstances where shaving (or spot shaving) may be helpful or necessary for your cat's health. Read on for insights from our team at Beverly Hills Veterinary Associates.

Reasons Why a Cat May Need to be Shaved

Always consult with your veterinarian if you think your cat could benefit from being shaved, and be sure to discuss any concerns you have about ongoing care for your cat's coat at your next wellness visit. Here are the most common reasons why we might recommend shaving your cat:

  1. Mats can be carefully combed out with a lot of patience and gentle handling if there are just a few of them. But sometimes, shaving matted cat fur is necessary if severe matting is present.
  2. Shaving can help resolve a bad flea infestation, and shaving can make it easier to apply medications to treat ringworm, mites, and skin infections.
  3. Frequent hairballs or excessive shedding can be tamed with a lion cut or other partially shaved style.
  4. Cats with physical challenges, such as senior or obese cats, may not be able to groom themselves properly, which can result in severely matted or soiled fur. A hygiene (or sanitary) trim can help keep a cat's backside clean.

Protect Your Cat's Coat

Brushing your cat's fur on a regular basis should be part of your home pet grooming routine. Daily brushing will reduce shedding, keep your cat's coat breathable, and help prevent mats.

Seek Professional Grooming

If your cat has a buildup of mats or other condition that you think may require shaving, seek help from a professional groomer or your veterinarian.

We don't recommend shaving your cat at home for several reasons:

  1. Cats rarely remain still and calm, especially when a noisy pair of clippers is coming toward them.
  2. Cats have thin skin, and you wouldn't want to nick it.
  3. Clipper blades heat up and can burn the cat's skin when not used properly.
